Ryukakusan is a throat medicine whose main ingredients are crude drugs (Platycodon root, Senega, Apricot kernel, Glycyrrhiza) that activate the antitussive and expectorant action.
The inner surface of the human trachea is entirely covered with ciliated cells. These cilia vibrate constantly at a speed of about 1500 times per minute, and the inner wall of the trachea secretes mucus. Dust, dirt, bacteria, etc. that come in through the airway are captured by this mucus and expelled from the body by the vibration of the cilia. This is the body's natural cleansing action.
